“piece of ripple”
紙テープを“巻き直す”ことで生まれる可変するオブジェクト。
①「芯を抜いた時の空洞を埋めるために使用した道具(ピアノ線・玉)をアイコンとして残したもの」②「道具を使わず紙テープのみで巻き直したもの」③「2色のテープを貼り合わせて巻き直したもの」の3種類をアートピースとして出力した。巻きの螺旋構造によって、側面を指で押し出すことで自在に凹凸を形成することが出来る。巻きの構造美が、紙テープ本体が持つ物質の柔らかさと色の組み合わせによる視覚表現を引き立たせ、価値を引き出している。
この巻きの構造による“可変性”が私にとって心地よいものだった。このオブジェクトを人に手渡すと皆、異なる形づくりを行い、異なる反応を示した。巻きの構造が生む美しさの中で、それぞれがそれぞれの美しい形、面白い動きを探索し始めたのだ。そこには物質と人のインタラクションが存在しており、それがさらに人同士のコミュニケーションに派生していく。そんな実験的でプレイフルな時間は、個人の感覚を開く美しいひとときだ。このオブジェクトはモノとしての目的を持っておらず、加工もしていない。それは素材の魅力を再認識するという意味で、手段として使われる部品ではなく、素材とありのまま対峙したかったからである。加熱や分解などの加工は素材の魅力をを誇張してしまうような感覚があった。そうした意味で、巻くというミニマムな行為は紙テープのありのままの価値を見出してくれた。
These are variable objects created by removing the core of paper tape and “rewinding” it. Three types of art pieces were output: (1) “The tools (piano wire and balls) used to fill the void created when the core was removed were left as icons,” (2) “Re-wound using only paper tape without tools,” and (3) “Re-wound by pasting two different colors of tape together. The spiral structure of the winding allows the user to freely form unevenness by pushing the sides out with a finger. The framework of the winding enhances the softness of the material of the paper tape itself and the visual expression of the combination of colors, bringing out its value.
The “variability” of this winding structure was very pleasant to me. When I handed the object to people, they all responded differently, making different shapes. In the beauty of the winding structure, each person began to explore their own beautiful forms and interesting movements. There existed an interaction between the material and the people, which was further derived into communication between people. I feel that such experimental and playful time is a beautiful moment that opens the individual’s senses. This object has no purpose as a thing and has not been processed. This is because I wanted to confront the material as it is, not as parts used as a means, in the sense of rediscovering the material’s attractiveness. I felt that processing such as heating and disassembly would exaggerate the appeal of the material. In this sense, the minimal act of rolling up the tape helped me find the value of paper tape as it is.

【Re-〇〇○】 “Re-roll”
紙テープを“巻き直す”ことで生まれる可変するオブジェクト。身の回りに巻かれているものは数多く存在している。初めは、紐・テープ・紙・ホース…そこに現れている線や面が規則的に連なる佇まいに数学的な美を見出した。しかし“巻き”は視覚的にのみではなく、その構造が様々な場面で生産性を高めていた。時にコンパクトに、時に取り出しやすく、時に保護する役割を担う。“巻き”は容易かつ強力に作用する合理的なカタチである。そしてその構造は新しいモノへの昇華する可能性を大いに秘めている。巻かれている既製品を「巻き直す」そのミニマムな行為が素材そのものの価値を見出し、素材の背中を押すように魅力を引き出してくれた。
